The Impact Is on the Bottom Line
BOSS software empowers hurricane sales professionals.

HP: Please give a detailed description of your company and its history.

Surabhi Tomar: MindPillar was founded in 2001 with the goal of providing superior sales solutions to the transportation and hurricane protection industries. Capitalizing on developments in wireless communication and mobile technology, the company rapidly expanded and currently maintains offices in Hollywood, FL, and Newark, NJ. The company currently employs 17 people.

HP: What hurricane protection products did you handle initially? What products do you handle today?

Tomar : MindPillar initially supported only accordions. However, the BOSS Software™ now allows our clients to price out and create cut sheets for accordions, film, roll-downs, Bahamas, panels, colonials, roofing products and generators. It is dynamically designed so that it can encapsulate and reflect any type of product.

HP: Is your business computerized? Do you have a company Web site, and how is it used to communicate with customers?

Tomar: As a software vendor to the industry, we are fully computerized and we use e-mail, Web conferencing, instant messaging, voice over IP and a number of IT-based tools to enhance customer support and communication. Our Web site is www.hurricaneboss.com.

As our program is dynamic, we actually use BOSS for our own customer relationship management and sales.

HP: Who are your customers? What parts of the country do you service?

Tomar: Although most of our customers in the hurricane protection industry are located in Florida, we have clients scattered all over the country and even overseas.

With the help of some tools and a great technical support team, we have been able to provide excellent service to all these customers for more than six years.

HP: Where do you see yourself and your company five years from now? Are there additional areas within the industry that you would like to get involved in?

Tomar: We have just released a Wind Pressure Calculation module and enabled integration with QuickBooks and will continue to expand our solutions. We see ourselves as a technology partner that can impact numerous areas of the business. In the next year, we are moving to a fully integrated, fully wireless, comprehensive solution that can integrate the process between manufacturers, distributors and government with no redundant data entry. We will be able to facilitate a job from the point of initial entry through to the final accounting entry.

HP: What best describes your niche in the marketplace?

Tomar: While the BOSS software suite is designed to impact the entire business cycle of hurricane protection companies, our initial focus and core competency has been empowering hurricane sales professionals at the point of sale.

Improving sales efficiency, elimination of redundant data entry, enhanced professionalism, better internal and external communication and a focus on closing sales are the hallmarks of the BOSS Software package.
Regardless of product affiliation or company size, we feel strongly that our solutions impact the bottom line.

HP: What are your strengths in the marketplace?

Tomar: We could not be successful without listening to our clients and letting them direct and guide our continued development of the BOSS product suite. Our software is truly a reflection of the way that they operate on a day-to-day basis.

The BOSS software is somewhat unique in the industry in that it empowers the company to do more with less. Effectively, we simplify the process of managing clients and salespeople, reduce the time to complete a job including proposals, permits and cut sheets, and allow the salespeople to focus on the task of meeting the prospect’s needs.

HP: What advice would you give to other hurricane protection professionals?

Tomar: As IT professionals, we have seen the power of technology when properly implemented and how software can help to drive profitability. My advice would simply be to do your homework and find a software vendor that adequately reflects the way that you conduct your business.

There is often some reticence concerning the adoption of technology, usually stemming from a lack of understanding. It is imperative that you keep abreast of what technical innovations are available in the market, and how these could positively impact your business.

HP: What other products, if any, do you offer?

Tomar: We are currently researching RFID (Radio Frequency ID) solutions for warehouses that can keep track of inventory in real time and help predict inventory flow. We will begin looking for pilot companies to work with in a few months.
